Petrography and Geochemistry of the Baska Piwaza Ore Mineralization, Halgurd Mountain, Iraqi Kurdistan Region: Insights on the Genesis

This paper is the first attempt to study mineralogical and geochemical features of mineralization hosted within volcanic rocks Baska Piwaza section, at Halgurd Mountain, which highest mountain in Kurdistan whole Iraq. The host lithologies studied section represent mostly (basalts andesites), secondary sedimentary lithologies, such as radiolarian chert. There are two main stages oxide sulfide that can be recognized under three-time epochs early, middle late caused formation sulfides ore minerals. most dominant mineral hematite, with minor contribution magnetite, goethite, rutile. In terms sulfides, pyrite predominant phase chalcopyrite. petrographic XRD data reveal abundant minerals plagioclase, K-feldspar, pyroxene, amphibole, while quartz, calcite, clinochlore, sericite, prehnite, pumpellyite, muscovite. Additionally, chert comprised by ankerite, clay minerals, apatite characterized low silica content high iron oxide. Low concentration TiO2 ,and Fe2O3 suggesting quartz vein occurred formed due hydrothermal fluid. Field observation, petrographical indicate influenced alteration, value Loss On Ignition (LOI) ratio alkalis (Na2O+K2O). Moreover, evidences chloritization sericitization mafic feldspar respectively support impact.
